One of the biggest mistakes new adopters make is expecting their dog to feel comfortable immediately in the new environment. Your dog has gone through major life changes, so you want to make the first few weeks calm and low pressure so they can feel as comfortable as possible. After an experience at the shelter, your dog will want to know that they're safe and settled into the new home. So in the early days, let that be your focus, building trust in time through routines. With patience and care, your dog's true personality will start to show.

Sit. Good boy. You can teach your dog some commands and tricks initially, but it should be low pressure and based on building communication and trust. Simple exercises like rewarding attention, teaching commands like sit, place, come, or reinforcing calm behavior help the dog learn the new environment without overwhelming them. The simple early training will also help you and your dog bond and create a lifelong friendship.
Your dog isn't broken
The advice you've been given is
You have tried treats. You have tried YouTube. You have tried the trainer who came to your house, smiled, and left you with the same dog you started with.
Thirty years and more than 20,000 dogs have taught Brett one thing. Dogs do not need bribery. They need structure and leadership. The aggressive dog, the leash puller, the anxious rescue, every one of them can be turned around. The breed is never the problem. Doodles, French bulldogs, shepherds, rescues, working breeds. Real world obedience, balanced methods, and a trainer who has actually seen it before, that is the solution.
By the time the phone rings, Brett is usually the third trainer the family has called. The positive only approach already failed. The dog is worse, not better. That is where his real work begins.

Doodles, French bulldogs, shepherds, rescues, working breeds, the breed is never the problem.
